Supreme Thanksgiving Case
This is it: a case of supreme Thanksgiving decadence... If you want to get fancy this Thanksgiving, this is the celebratory case you want!
Aperitif - Del Professore Vermouth - Vermouth on the rocks is the hip new aperitif. Show up with this cool bottle, pour some over ice, and you'll have already brought the most interesting bottle to dinner... This is sure to impress your relatives from NYC. (If you hate vermouth we'll switch it out for something else, don't worry. But we suggest you give it a try!)
Bubbly - Montand Blanc de Blancs
Day-in, Day-out, this bottle of yummy bubbles over-delivers. It's one of those bottles you open, and then suddenly it's empty.
Bubbly - Bott Geyl Cremant d'Alsace - Extra Brut
Cremates are wines made in the Traditional Method (just like Champagne). They are highly regulated for quality, and they are from regions that are outside of Champagne. Cremants are well made and this particular one from Alsace uses classic grapes (Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc).
Blanc - Jean-Marc Pillot Chassagne-Montrachet 'Les Chaumes' 2015
We only get a few bottles of this rare bottle each year. Pillot's wines are always so well balanced, and his wine from the Les Chaumes vineyard is that classic, elegant, rich-yet-refreshing Burgundy Blanc that dreams are made of. Oh- and it's from the great 2015 vintage!
Blanc - Weinbach Gewurztraminer 'Cuvee Theo' - Alsace, France 2016
Unicorn alert! Weinbach is at the top of the Alsatian wineries, and it is ultra-rare. Believe it or not, Gewurztraminer is a classic grape to pair with Thanksgiving dinner. Gewurztraminer has lush, floral, aromatics and finishes on the palate with a spicy, white-peppery zippy finish. Classicists will adore this pairing, but it will also be fun to pull out this bottle during dinner and have everyone try a sip of this historic turkey-pairing wine.
Rouge - Ken Wright Pinot Noir 'Abbot Claim' - Willamette Valley, Oregon 2015
Ken Wright is the bellwether producer of Oregon-- his techniques and views about producing high-quality wine from small vineyard sites set the tone for the Oregon wine industry, which has been focused on ultra-high quality wine since its inception. The '15 Abbot Claim is a richer Pinot Noir that is drinking great right now.
Rouge - Vajra Langhe Rosso - Nebbiolo blend - Langhe, Piemonte, Italy 2016
Nebbiolo from in and around Barolo & Barbaresco made by the charming Vaira family-- this Langhe Rosso bottle is a great ambassador of the wines of Piemonte in northern Italy.
Rouge - Chateau Falfas Bordeaux - Bourg, Bordeaux, France 2012
Chateau Falfas has been farming biodynamically for decades and has led a quiet revolution of high-quality, sustainable wines in the Bourg. Wines from the Cote de Bourg grow just across the river from Margaux, and their history is about 600 years longer than Margaux winemaking. Bourg wines are historic, traditional glimpses into the original Bordeaux wines of long ago... This particular bottle is powerful, with rich, silky tannins, and a deep red-fruited center.
Rouge - Taillander 'Viti Vini Bibi' - Minervois, France 2016
This southern France blend of Grenache, Cinsault, & Carignan is one of our shop favorites. This wine is one of those powerful, dense wines that also happens to be so smooth that it goes down easy. How is this possible? We're still wondering. Benjamin Taillander only makes 25K bottles every year, so we know he's putting lots of care and attention into each bottle.
Rouge - Francois de Nicolay, Mercurey, Burgundy, France 2015
Burgundy! We could wax poetic for days about our love of Burgundy, but we'll let this 2015 Mercurey speak for itself. Traditional horse-ploughed vineyards, rich wines that are made so minimal there is no filtration or movement throughout the cellar, and the wines are made without sulfur additions. Classic, healthy, and most important of all, delicious.
Rouge - Filipa Pato 'Post Quercus' anfora-fermented Baga 500ml
Filipa grew up in her father's winery; since she opened her own winery she has become a darling of the Portuguese wine world. This bottle is her unique take on one of her father's favorite grapes -- Baga. She ferments this one in terra-cotta pots (anforas) and the result is a fascinating wine that has a medium-rich body to it, and tons of deep-fruited flavor. She's a minimalist who farms and vilifies sustainably. We love her simple approach that produces wines that, with each sip, take you straight to their source...
Rouge - Domaine Guion Cabernet Franc - Bourgueil - Loire, France
Bourgueil is right near Chinon, and is also known for elegant, savory Cabernet Franc. We love the nascent complexity of Loire wines-- wines that make bold statements with subtle flavors and textures...
