The Summer Case arriveth!
Bubbles
Bubbly Cava - Perelada - Penedes, Spain
Crisp, delicious Cava from near Barcelona.
Bubbly Cremant - Clemens Guery - Loire, France
A richer sparkling white, made from Chardonnay and Chenin Blanc. This cremant from the Loire is made using the traditional method (the same sparkling method they use in Champagne). Clemes Guery farms using biodynamics..
Rouge
Rouge - Valle Dell’Acate Frappato - Sicily, Italy 2016
Juicy, cherry-fruited frappato from the volcanic soils of Sicily. This wine has aromas that remind us of perfectly ripe cherries topped with Sicilian orange zest.
Rouge - Malpasso - Umbria, Italy
100% Sangiovese from east of Tuscany in Umbria. This is an unoaked, simple wine, made without any sulfur additions. This is delicious with a slight chill. Bonus: It’s a liter bottle! You get a little extra :) *slight chill recommended
Rouge - Monte Dall’Ora - Valpolicella, Italy 2017
The classic red Valpolicella blend comes from the foothills of the Alps in northern Italy. Valpolicella wines are similar to Amarone because they are made from the same grapes, though the Amarone wines are raisinated, and Valpolicella is made from fresh grapes. This particular wine has a bright, almost crunchy flavor.
Rouge - Uva Non Grata - France 2018
When we think back to the 1300s when Philip the Bold passed laws against Gamay and outlawed it in his French kingdom, we come to the conclusion that he was crazy, or had terrible taste in wine. Gamay is delicious, and this bottle is proof that Philip the Bold had it wrong. *slight chill recommended
Rouge - Tire Pé ‘DieM’ - Bordeaux, France 2017
This wine is a bit rich for summer, but we included it specifically for a BBQ. If you are grilling out one night and are having roasted meats or mushrooms, this will be the perfect pairing.
Blanc
Blanc – Vino di Sasso - Cephalonia, Greece 2017
There is nothing else quite like this wine. It comes from the Ionian Greek island of Cephalonia, and the grape is 100% Robola. On Cephalonia, limestone cliffs rise up from the sea and are topped with pine-like brush. The vineyards grow on the limestone, and the resulting wine is like drinking liquid electricity. Beyond zesty, ultra refreshing, dancing texture.
Blanc – Haut Lavigne 2017 - Cotes de Duras, France
Grown east of Bordeaux City and just south of Bergerac, this Sauvignon Blanc-Semillon blend is not your typical Bordeaux blanc. The aromatics are almost floral, and the fruit is pure. Farmed & vinified by the thoughtful Nadia Lusseau.
Blanc - K Pilota - Basque, ` K6Spain 2018
Grape: Hondarrabi Zuri. The wines from Basque are crisp and refreshing. They may remind you of a cross between Vinho Verde and Muscadet. In the region, they typically pour the wines into small glasses from great heights, to micro decant the wine as it is served. (google “Pour Txakoli” to see some pictures of this). Should you decide to pour out the wine this way, we are rooting for you to aim true and get it in the glass!
Blanc - Guindon - Muscadet (sur lie), France 2017
Muscadet: The French summer classic. Made from the Melon de Bourgogne grape, this wine grows near the Atlantic coast in the Loire Valley. It’s a perfect pairing with seafood, shellfish -- in particular oysters.
Rosé - Domaine Dozon - Chinon, Loire, France 2018
This rosé of Cabernet Franc has a deeply fruited core of flavor, with a zingy white pepper finish. Dozon wines are small production and rather rare, so if you like it, savor it-- we will not be able to get more until next year…
