Ultimate Fall Case!
Need some wine for the changing season? We've got you covered! Here's what's inside our Ultimate Fall Case:
Bubbles, Rosé, Blanc
Bubbly Prosecco - Siema - Veneto, Italy
Produced from organically farmed grapes, grown near the famous town of Verona, where Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet is set. Crisp, zesty, green apple hints.
Rosé - Paul Dierdler - Austria
This rose of Zweigelt is juicy and crisp-- the perfect bottle to reach for on those days when you can’t quite tell if it’s summer or fall....
Dark Rosé - Fatalone - Puglia, Italy
This fascinating wine hovers in the spectrum between a pale red wine and rose. It’s made from the ‘secondaries’-- or the second fruiting zone of a grape plant. Secondaries are often discarded-- cutting them off helps the primary fruit ripen faster. Leaving them on sets up the grapes for a long, complex maturation season, but also increases the risk of weather damage because they slow down grape ripening. Just a few producers in the world make special bottlings from their secondaries, and Fatalone is one of them. They leave them on the Primitivo vines, and make a dense red wine from the primary fruit, and harvest the secondaries specifically for rose. This wine is a wonderful example of sustainability.
Blanc - Masseria del Feudo - Sicily, Italy
This mineral-driven wine has a lifted palate with a soft, fruity flavor and aromas of apricots and lemons. This is a great wine to pair with seafood of any kind, or a salad with a citrus note to it.
Blanc - La Cappucina - Soave, Italy
Wines from Soave are made exclusively from the Garganega grape. This region is tucked into the foothills of the Italian Alps, and the wine smells a bit like a fresh-cut pear.
Blanc - Patois - Madison County, Virginia
This is one of the most extraordinary beverages we have tried this year. Note: It’s a cider-- but not just any cider. Patrick, one of our favorite local cider nerds, seeks out some of the oldest orchards in Virginia, in an attempt to rediscover the lost American cidermaking tradition. He’s interested in orchardists who have their apple trees mirror the arboreal equilibrium trees have in the wild. Patrick made this cider from 100+ year old apple trees that grow at Quaker Run. This bottling is his first commercial release, and we are so happy to support his special local business. Try this with a pork dish, or with a butternut squash risotto. You will be surprised at how quickly this bottle empties…
Rouge
Rouge - Tati - Piemonte, Italy
This tasty Barbera from a tiny farm in the rolling hills of Italy’s Piemonte region has a touch of age to it and expresses the complexities that emerge from this grape with a little time in the bottle. This would be perfect with a mushroom dish.
Rouge - Thorne Clarke - Barossa, Australia
Shiraz’s history in Barossa dates back to the 1850s when people settled from Silesia (now modern day Poland) and brought grape vines with them. Today, Australia has some of the world’s oldest vineyards, with vines dating back to the 1840s. There is nothing quite like Australian Shiraz. it’s the same grape as Syrah, but in Australia the grape seems to become breadthful and lush, bursting with blackberry flavors and a finish of cracked pepper.
Rouge - Kapnos - Evia, Greece
Spicy, lush Syrah from the large island that sits just off Attica. These grapes are about 40 miles as the crow flies from Athens. Syrah is having a moment in Greece, and increased plantings make it a local favorite in many wine regions. Just think, wines from here were so good that even Odysseus had to being some with him on his Homeric journey…. Try it side-by-side with the Thorne Clarke to see how the same grape can express itself differently in different countries.
Chianti Trio:
Chianti – Morli Neri - Chianti, Tuscany
Produced by a group of winemakers near Florence, this Sangiovese-heavy blend is part of the Italian repertoire. because this is a multi-vineyard blend, you get a broad breadth of flavor. Try with classic Italian food (pasta, pizza, etc.)
Chianti – Cavaliere d’Oro - Chianti, Tuscany
In the Middle Ages, this vineyard was protected by the “Golden Knights,’ hence the namesake, “Cavaliere d’Oro.’ With an 800 year heritage of winemaking, this is quintessential Chianti.
Chianti - Selvapiana - Chianti Rufina, Tuscany
Rufina is one of the smallest subregions in Chianti, and sits along the Sieve River in the foothills of the Apennines mountains. Rufino sits at a higher altitude than Chianti Classico and yields complex wines with layers upon layers of flavor. Selvapiana is focused on sustainable practices.
